A site assessment is a visit to your residence or business for the purpose of evaluating what sort of renewable energy systems may be practical at the location. The principal focus of the site assessment is measuring how much sunlight reaches the spot or spots where a solar installation might go. If a site has excessive shading, a solar system will not perform up to its capabilities. Because the sun's position does not remain constant throughout the year, the evaluation accounts for variations in the sun's path and angle. Following the site assessment we can discuss with you whether site is suitable for deploying solar electric, solar hot water, and/or solar air heat solutions.
Not only is a thorough solar site assessment key to ensuring that the site is appropriate for the system, but it is also necessary to obtain certain rebates. By way of example, the new $2 per watt solar electric rebates available to Missouri home and business owners provide that "[a]s installed, the solar electric system shall be situated in a location where a minimum of eighty-five percent (85%) of the solar resource is available to the system". With any renewable energy system representing a significant investment, documenting the appropriate selection of the site only makes good sense.
