EWKC Home Energy Rebates for Kansas City, MO

As a participant in the local Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program, Decent Energy, Inc.,  has been informed that  EnergyWorks KC (EWKC) will be providing certain additional rebates to incent home energy improvements. The slated start date for the new program is October 1, 2011. The enhanced rebate is only available to residents of Kansas City, MO. Program eligiblity requirements apply.

EWKC is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy under its Better Buildings grant progam. Our understanding is that through EWKC the City of Kansas City Missouri plans to enhance roughly two thousand (2,000) home energy efficiency improvement projects.

The EWKC Home Energy Rebate attempts to tie together two existing sets programs with the carrot of a third set of incentives. The existing programs include: (1) Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® (HPwES), and (2) the Kansas City Power & Light (KCPL) Cool Homessm and Missouri Gas Energy (MGE) Energy Sensesm programs.

Under the announced structure, a home would receive a comprehensive home energy assessment under the existing Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program. The HPwES program includes bill credits of up to twelve hundred dollars ($1200).

If following the assessment the homeowner decides to make mechanical improvements (water heating, heating, and/or air conditioning) then an additional rebate of up to nine hundred dollars ($900) may apply over and above the incentives available under the Cool Homessm and Energy Sensesm programs.

Here is the breakdown on how the anticipated structure will work:

In connection with obtaining the EWKC rebate, we expect that a fifteen percent (15%) modeled energy saving requirement will apply.  We are informed that residences that take advantage of the two existing programs and do not satisfy the 15% savings target for modeled energy use will not be eligible for the EWKC rebate.

Please note that this is the most recent information that we have received. While we will attempt to maintain this information as current, the EWKC program may change, and additional program requirements may apply.  To address the specifics of how the program may apply to your situation please contact us.
